Singapore’s tax authority launched digital compliance tools for more than 323,000 companies filing corporate income tax for the 2026 assessment year.

More than 37,000 newly incorporated enterprises are covered by the roll-out. The goal is to cut filing errors and administrative follow-up work for small and medium-sized operators across the city-state.

Automated Checks for Small Operators

The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore rolled out six self-service digital tools on Oct. 19. These include a filing obligation checker for newly incorporated entities, a digital record-keeping assistant, and an expense deductibility evaluation module. On the myTax Portal, companies can also run a troubleshooting assistant, track tax payments directly, and monitor formal assessment objections online.

Calculating deductible business costs often falls hardest on small merchants, independent retailers, and food service operators without dedicated finance teams. Tax authorities want automated preliminary checks to cut disputed claims and late-filing notices before annual return windows close.

Incentives for Technology and Innovation

Beyond automated filing tools, eligible businesses can tap financial relief measures including the Corporate Income Tax Rebate, the CIT Rebate Cash Grant, and the SME Cash Grant 2026. These schemes provide cash buffers to retail merchants, distributors, and service providers facing operating overheads and wage pressures.

“Goods and services tax-registered businesses must submit digital invoices via InvoiceNow by April 2031.”

Authorities are also targeting enterprise technology adoption through expanded tax relief. Under the Enterprise Innovation Scheme, businesses investing in artificial intelligence can claim 400 per cent tax deductions on qualifying expenditure up to S$50,000 per assessment year across 2027 and 2028. For retail chains and logistics firms experimenting with automated inventory ordering or customer service tools, the write-off significantly lowers initial software capital barriers.

Digital Transition Across Singapore Commerce

Simplifying the corporate tax process aligns with Singapore’s push to shift traditional storefronts and commercial operators onto linked digital systems. Mandatory e-invoicing is expanding across the domestic supply chain. Goods and services tax-registered businesses must submit digital invoices via InvoiceNow by April 2031.

For enterprise software vendors and corporate service providers, these compliance tools shift how commercial advisory services work. Basic tax computation and bookkeeping are turning into standardized digital functions. That is pushing corporate secretarial and accounting firms toward strategic restructuring and tax planning. Operators that delay digitizing their ledgers face higher audit friction as automated verification expands.

Building on Past Return Simplification

The new portal tools build directly on earlier filing overhauls. In the 2025 assessment year, roughly 80 per cent of eligible companies opted for a simplified corporate tax return. That program reduced filing forms from three pages down to six core data fields.

National tax collections reached a record S$97.3 billion, up 9.4 per cent on strong underlying economic activity. The streamlined framework allowed smaller commercial enterprises to file on time without hiring third-party accountants for basic returns.

Next Steps for Tax Filers

Companies preparing returns for Year of Assessment 2026 must verify their eligibility for simplified forms and run deductibility checks on operating expenditure before submitting. Ahead of the Year of Assessment 2027 filing cycle, finance teams assessing artificial intelligence software will track detailed guidance on qualifying EIS capital allocations.
