Apple Singapore’s new ‘floating store’ built in the harbor in front of the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort has not yet opened – but already it has taken over social media.
Designed by London-based Foster + Partners architecture studio, the store is Apple’s first in the world built with a spherical shape and appears to floats on the water. The store is also Singapore’s third Apple store after the two in Orchard and Jewel Changi Airport.
Many Instagram users have shared images of this special flagship. There are two ways to access the store, via a footbridge or an underwater passage connecting to The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
Apple has yet to confirm the store’s opening date but has finally formally acknowledged Singapore retailing’s worst-kept secret of the last two years.
“Apple Marina Bay Sands will be at the heart of creativity, a place we’ve made for you to capture your ideas and passions,” Apple said in a statement. “It will be a space for you to explore, connect, and create something new. We can’t wait to see where your imagination takes you.”
Construction of the floating store commenced two years ago after the demolition of a nightclub on the site.
