Thailand to build new bridge to Cambodia

The Thai government is constructing a new bridge to link Chanthaburi province in eastern Thailand with Pailin province in Cambodia, with an estimated cost of 15 million baht (US$431,400).

During his visit to the Ban Pakkad border checkpoint in Pong Nam Rong district on Nov. 21, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul highlighted the bridge’s potential to boost cross-border trade and tourism between the two nations.

Named the New Chanthaburi-Pailin Friendship Bridge, this concrete structure will replace the temporary steel bridge currently connecting the two provinces. The new bridge will span approximately 40 meters and include 3-meter-wide pedestrian walkways on each side of the vehicular lanes.

With its improved design and infrastructure, the bridge is expected to significantly enhance logistics and trade efficiency between Thailand and Cambodia, fostering stronger economic ties.
